Things Are Not Always What They Seem

I knew a girl, awhile ago
she was the girl that everybody was envious of.
She had the perfect look,
the perfect clothes, hair, smile and body.
The boys wanted to get to know her,
the girls wanted to know her secret.

See, I'm a guidance conselor,
I hear those who come in, they tell me:
"Oh, if only I was more like her, had her life, her looks,
THEN I'd be happy"
This girl, she seemed to have it all
But one day,
I saw her crying
I asked her what was the matter,
if she wanted to talk.

With tears in her eyes,
she told me about the abuse,
she told me about how hard it is to trust people
she told me about the harsh words
the words that hurt, like weapons.
she told me about how she doesn't have even one real friend.
she knows how they just want to use her
the boys don't really care about HER, they just care about her looks
the girls are just jealous about the attention,
"Jealous of what?" she asked me
"Jealous of the parents I have that beat me then buy me clothes to cover it up? Jealous of the act I have to put on for everyone? Jealous of the lies I live in?..."

Things are not always what they seem. This is to her, this girl who's lived through and seen so much. Don't judge people. Period. You never know who's in disguise.
Let everyone out there who put on the mask know that they aren't alone, and that there is help.
