Did You Know?
(HealthDayNews) -- If you're a man who's a loner or who constantly feels angry, you may be at risk of gum disease.
A recent study showed that men who said they felt angry almost every day had a 43 percent greater risk of developing gum disease than those who were seldom angry, according to the Johns Hopkins University Health After 50 newsletter.
Men who had at least one close friend had a 30 percent lower risk of getting periodontitis, compared with those who were socially isolated.
Stress is associated with poor oral hygiene, increased secretion of glucocorticoids, and greater insulin resistance, all of which can increase a person's risk of gum disease.
